Variable Volume Pumps - Overview


Lee LPV Series Variable Volume Pumps are the solution to "the syringe pump problem". Syringe pumps, while widely used in automated chemistry systems, have many precision and reliability drawbacks. The Lee LPV Pump overcomes these shortcomings through an "install and forget" design, with additional features and performance.

    These high quality pumps are carefully engineered and manufactured in a laboratory-like, clean production environment. The result is a line of instrument-quality pumps that offer unparalleled performance in terms of reliability and consistent operation from cycle to cycle and pump to pump.

    The Lee LPV pumps operate by means of a stepper motor which moves an axial piston assembly back and forth through the center of a fixed volume chamber. The motor armature rotates an internal nut, which engages a threaded rod that is affixed to the piston. This results in a translation from rotation of axial motion. This axial motion then displaces volume in a closed space, creating fluid movement. The piston reciprocates in a fixed seal, unlike a syringe pump, which has a moving seal. The fixed seal enables two ports access to the piston chamber, with one port adjacent to the seal, to aid in flushing. In addition, the piston chamber may be configured in a flow-through manner to aid in flushing between chemistries. The main benefits of this type of construction are simplicity, compactness, and flushability.
