Fluid Power Dissipation

Whenever there is a flow through an orifice, there is a power consumption (or loss) which is a function of the pressure drop and the flow rate. The following data is useful in calculating the hydraulic power (horsepower) requirements of a system.

Where H = psi and I = GPM flow rate

The hydraulic power can also be expressed in another convenient form.

Where L = Lohms

Since 1 H.P. = 749 watts, the above formula can be:

Example:
A Lee Chek Valve such as TKLA9501130D with 300 Lohms will flow .47gpm at 50 psid. At those conditions, what horsepower is lost?
