Location: Westbrook, CT | Full Time

Job Description:

Direct, supervise and coordinate machining operations for 10-15 machinists requiring a broad knowledge of machining technology and trade skill applications in addition to supervisory experience.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma, GED, or trade school education plus over 3 years up to and including 5 years machining/production experience
  • Proficiency in the use of computerized machine controls, weight scales, comparators, microscope, precision measurement instruments, hand tools, and specialized trade tools.
  • Significant machining knowledge

Responsibilities:

  • Direct and supervise tool set ups and machine operations to produce standard but complex parts having critical interrelated dimensions, intricate contours, and close and exacting tolerances and finish requirements.
  • Responsible for quality, quantity, economical manufacturing costs, production schedules, material, and work flow consistent with manufacturing objectives and profit goals.
  • Organize and assign work to utilize available skills, knowledge and experience, man-hours, machines, and tooling to the best advantage to obtain most favorable machining costs, quality, and workmanship.
  • Provide instructions and guidance and maintain close surveillance over set up procedures and machining operations.
  • Analyze and diagnose machining and tool problems, machine malfunctions, etc., to expedite and coordinate corrective procedures and prevent excessive downtime and interrupted schedules.
  • Provide information and collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production Control et al., to assist with or implement such programs related to work simplification, cost reduction, new tooling and methods, man hour planning, scheduling, machine repairing and maintenance.
  • As required, develop programs for the CNC equipment utilizing procedures and methods as outlined in manufacturers operation manual. Sharpen tools, make cam, or tool layouts as necessary.
  • Check and approve time cards to insure proper time and job orders are being charged. Maintain time and attendance records. Requisition or approve the purchase of all departmental supplies.
  • Recommend the purchase of capital equipment needed for the operation of the department.
  • Prepare departmental budgets and maintain departmental operation.
  • Hire, train, and maintain adequate work force consistent with work levels. Appraise employee performance, recommend change of status and wage adjustments. Administer work rules and regulations and recommend or administer disciplinary action.
