Make The Switch: Smarter Alternatives To Pyrovalves For Defense Systems

The Lee Company’s passive and non-passive solutions offer reliable, reusable alternatives to pyrovalves. Built on decades of flight heritage, our miniature components have been field-proven in a variety of critical aerospace and space applications. Our valves offer shock-free performance without explosive actuation, protecting system components from damage or contamination and enabling repeatable, nondestructive qualification testing. And without the hazardous explosive materials common to pyrovalves, our solutions simplify safety and logistic protocols.

WHY REPLACE YOUR PYROVALVE?

Passive and non-passive valve solutions address key limitations of pyrovalve designs. These options offer unique design flexibility that improves system reliability in critical defense applications.

Unlike pyrovalves, Lee passive and non-passive components:

  • Don’t generate shock or debris
  • Enable non-destructive, repeatable testing
  • Are easier and more cost-effective to qualify
  • Require no special handling or storage
  • Are reusable and maintainable

MISSION-READY RELIABILITY: OUR SOLUTIONS

LATCHING MECHANICAL VALVE

Engineered for long-term storage and harsh environments, this passive valve requires no electrical input, activating based on changes in pressure. It features a leak-tight check valve seat and a bi-stable shuttling element with a latching mechanism which can be reset via a gauge pin. Click here for more information.

PNEUMATIC LATCHING SOLENOID VALVE

This non-passive valve switches to and remains in state with only a momentary electrical pulse thanks to permanent magnets incorporated into the coil design. The valve’s latching feature ensures that it will remain in the current state in the event of a power loss. Building on the design of our ultra-compact piloting solenoid valves, this valve uses MultiSeal® technology to simplify port layout and provide significant space savings. The MultiSeal sealing element eliminates the need for conventional O-rings in favor of a cylindrical polyamide-imide element.
