Fill and Drain Valves for Aerospace

Mechanically-Actuated Check Valves engineered for filling & draining applications

When failure isn’t an option, Lee Fill and Drain Valves deliver dependable fluid control for your aerospace and defense systems.

Fill and drain valves help to ensure safety and operational readiness in a range of aerospace and defense applications. They are used to add and remove nitrogen during proof testing, as well as to load fuel into aircraft such as missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). In controlled situations, fill and drain valves can be used to fill blowdown systems with fluid at regular intervals. They also allow for the controlled charging and purging of nitrogen used to actuate weapons deployment systems.

Lee Fill and Drain Valves are built under aerospace quality standard AS9100 to ensure the precise transfer of volatile fluids during ground operations and pre-launch sequences. A variety of material options are available, making this valve compatible with a wide range of fluids. Lee Fill and Drain Valves offer exceptional external leak rates (under 10−7 sccs of helium at 4000 psid with cap and gasket installed), helping to preserve the integrity of your mission. Unlike traditional valves with integrated actuators that add weight, our design utilizes a separate pilot tool that is used to open the valve prior to launch. This means that valve’s in-flight configuration is extremely small – with a weight as low as 38 grams.

We offer two standard system integration options: a traditional aerospace standard threaded boss mount or a tube stub that can be welded on to provide a leak-tight seal. For either selection, the pilot tool can be used to mechanically open the check valve to drain the system. Custom interfaces are also available to meet your unique needs.

Boss Mount-Style

Boss Mount-Style Lee Fill and Drain Valves are easily integrated into systems using a threaded connection. Frequently used in systems with modular components that require repeatable servicing, this interface provides an easy way to access fuel tanks for filling and draining. Lightweight and compact, the boss-mount style fill and drain valve provides a leak-tight seal that can withstand dynamic load environments. A separate pilot tool is utilized to provide additional space and weight savings.

Tube Stub-Style

Tube Stub-Style Lee Fill and Drain Valves integrate directly into existing tubing without the need for a threaded or machined boss. The tube stub is welded onto an existing mating tube stub to eliminate potential leakage that might arise from a threaded component.  A flange is used to transfer force away from the welded point, helping to protect the valve in high shock or vibration environments. A separate pilot tool is utilized to provide additional space and weight savings.
